Supplies and Home (Jails) department.

SHILLONG: Even after the Cabinet reshuffle, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma is still holding charge of several important departments.

There was expectation that few plum portfolios currently held by Dr Sangma would be distributed to other Cabinet ministers including those who are newly inducted when Chief Minister brought about the much-awaited Cabinet reshuffle.

As of now, Dr Mukul is still holding charge of as many as 11 departments. Besides Finance and Commerce and Industries, the Chief Minister also holds the charge of Agriculture, Horticulture, Border Areas Development (BAD), Planning, Irrigation, Programme Implementation and Evaluation and Sericulture and Weaving.

Dr Mukul has also taken over Tourism department from Ampareen Lyngdoh, Forest and Environment department from Prof RC Laloo and Fisheries department which was under former Urban Affairs Minister Founder S Cajee who was dropped.

It may be reminded that one of the reasons for the unrest among Congressmen and the oust Mukul campaign is because they are unhappy over his decision to retain many departments with himself.

Meanwhile, as per the official notification on the allocation of portfolios which was issued on Wednesday after the approval of Governor RS Mooshahary, senior Congress legislator Prof RC Laloo has been given charge of Education (School Education and Literacy/ Higher and Technical), Food and Civil Supplies and Home (Jails) department.

However, Forest and Environment department and Sericulture and Weaving have been taken away from Prof RC Laloo. But he would continue to hold charge of Revenue and Disaster Manager and Soil and Water Conservation.

Congress legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh has been allocated the Urban Affairs department, Municipal Administration, Housing department and Science and Technology. She would also function as the Chairman of MUDA. However, Ampareen has forfeited Education and Tourism departments.

BJP turned Congress legislator AL Hek has been given charge of Water Resources, General Administration Department and Information and Technology department.

Sutnga-Shangpung Congress legislator Shitlang Pale has been awarded with PHE, Home Guards and Civil Defence and Legal Metrology Department.

Meanwhile, first time Congress legislator Saleng M Sangma was give charge of Community and Rural Development (C&RD), PWD (Building) and Co-operation departments.
