Guwahati: The court of the chief judicial magistrate, Kamrup district, here on Sunday remanded Right to Information (RTI) activist and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi to judicial custody and ordered the authority to admit him into Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCJ) immediately in view of his deteriorating health condition.

“Akhil who was arrested on June 24 and sent to three days police custody, was produced before the court a day in advance after a medical team examining him in police custody recommended his immediate hospitalisation as he was suffering from severe back pain,” Akhil’s counsel Bhaskar Dev Konwar said.

The court also allowed Akhil to have home made food, if he wished, while in hospital under custody.

Akhil has expressed apprehension that he might be administered spurious food and drugs while in custody.

The government has slapped ten charges under various sections of the IPC against Akhil in relation to June 22 mass protest that turned violent on the street of Guwahati leaving three dead and scores injured.

The KMSS organised the protest against eviction drive to clear forest land, wet lands and hills in and around Guwahati city of encroachers.
