Kingston (Jamaica): West Indies dropped vice- captain Brendan Nash from the second cricket Test against India starting on Tuesday at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. There was no place for Jamaican opener Chris Gayle in the side as well.

The Australia-born left-hander, born to Jamaican parents, has been replaced with Barbadian right-handed strokemaker Kirk Edwards, who will be making his debut on his home soil.

Nash had scores of 5, 3, 6, and 30 against the Pakistan and carried his poor form in the first Test against India at the Sabina Park, where he scored one and nine. India won by 63 runs.

“It is clear that Brendan has been struggling for form for some time and we want to give him a chance to take some time away from international cricket and work on his game,” Clyde Butts, Chairman of the Selection Committee said.

“Brendan is a mentally tough cricketer and we are sure that he will be able to overcome the challenges he is now facing and come back strong,” Butts added.

Gayle still finds himself out-of-favour due to his bitter battle with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). The former captain has been asked to apologise for his adverse comments on the WICB, coach Otis Gibson and captain Darren Sammy in a radio interview.

Squad: Darren Sammy (captain), Adrian Barath, Carlton Baugh, Devendra Bishoo, Darren Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Fidel Edwards, Kirk Edwards, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Lendl Simmons. (IANS)
