Shillong: The FKJGP’s Tamu Unit has criticized the State Government for failing to construct road which passes through four villages — Mukoh, Ringkyrtei, Pdeiiaw, Musiang and Tamu.
The organisation mentioned that villagers were facing hardship due to lack of proper road in the area.
H Chen, president of the unit, said the government was only concerned about the widening the existing roads in the urban areas and failed to address the needs of the rural population.
KSU to demand JNNURM buses in WKH

NONGSTOIN: The West Khasi Hills unit of KSU has decided to urge the State Government to allot some buses received under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) to West Khasi Hills district.
The decision to this effect was taken at an executive committee meeting of the students’ body held here on Monday.
Talking to reporters, JF Nongsiang, president of the KSU unit, said, “Nongstoin town has no public bus to ferry passengers from one corner to another especially from the Nongstoin market to the hospital.”
Sources stated that the State Government can not operationalise JNNURM buses in West Khasi Hills since all the areas of the district do not have civic bodies.

SHILLONG: An unidentified body of a woman, aged around 40 years, was recovered from a drain in Mawngap village on Monday. Police suspect it to be a case of suicide.
Principals’ meet
A day-long conference on the theme “academic reforms” for the principal’s of colleges affiliated to the North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong was held on June 24 in the conference hall, Administrative Building, NEHU, permanent campus. The conference was attended by 47 principals.
Competition
The Rabindranath Tagore Club, Laban in a release informed that the Khasi traditional dance competition, organized as part of its 4th Inter- Shillong Cultural Meet-2011, has remained cancelled and instead Go-as-you-like competition will be held.The time, date & venue remain same.

Dr. S. Ahmed, chairman, AIDS Prevention Society Assam, delivered a lecture on ‘The Response to the HIV AIDS epidemic in North East India’ at the Women’s College, Shillong on Monday.
Awareness rally
The National Cadets Corps (NCC) observed International Day against Drugs Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 25. The awareness rally was flagged off by Commanding Officer Lt Col B S Bisht. The rally was attended by people of all ages especially 500 NCC cadets from 61 Meghalaya Girls Bn NCC. Similar programme was also organized at Capt. Williamson Memorial Govt. College, South Garo Hills, Baghmara on Monday.
