SHILLONG: In an attempt to keep the recent goings-on under wraps the NEIGRIHMS authorities have resorted to the old game of preventing media persons from entering the campus on Tuesday.

It was interesting to note that media persons have been barred from entering the NEIGRIHMS premises. There were strict checks on every vehicle to ensure that no media person enters inside.

A group of journalists who had gone to cover the ongoing indefinite strike of the MBBS students had to remain outside the gate right from the morning.

Is there something that the authorities at NEIGRHIMS wish to hide?

Otherwise why is there a ban on media persons covering an agitation by students?

It is learnt that the annual budget of NEIGRHIMS is to the tune of Rs 100 to Rs 120 crore. But according to sources, every year the Institute would surrender nearly half the amount. “This clearly shows the inability of the Institute to absorb funds and the incompetence of the Institute’s administration,” sources claimed on Tuesday.

According to sources, the Institute is found wanting in every sphere, adding that this shortfall in faculty intake is only a small part of the downside of NEIGRHIMS.

“There is a deeper conspiracy in NEIGRHIMS which has not yet been exposed,” sources said, adding that the attitude of some of the staff is to take the Institute on a downward slide.
