KOHIMA: Following the incident of June 30, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) brought a charge of lawlessness against the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland.
In a statement NPCC said the recent incidents belied the tall claim of peaceful atmosphere existing in the state by Home Minister Imkong L Imchen and the DAN Government miserably failed to protect the lives and properties of its citizens.
The NPCC said it held the DAN Government entirely responsible, stating despite knowing the heightened tension persisting between the two villages, the DAN Government headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had done nothing.
The incident was the result of the government’s willful neglect, adding the chief minister and the home minister simply lacked the political will and courage to resolve the pending issue, the statement allege.
On the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast at 3rd Mile, Dimapur, the opposition said it was another manifestation of the business community being caught as the soft target.
NPCC alleged when the DAN Government continued to turn a blind eye to the chronic law and order problem, the desperate public at least expected the governor of Nagaland to act and bring its government to task for breakdown in constitutional machinery.
Ex-gratia announced: The Government of Nagaland announced compensation for the victims of Inavi village, which was attacked by some unidentified gunmen on June 30 leaving two people dead.
In a statement Nagaland chief secretary Lalthara said the government announced compensation of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of the victims and Rs 50,000 each to those injured in the incident.
He said the state government condemned the cowardly acts of the perpetrators and reiterated its stand to bring the accused to book.
Mr Lalthara appealed to the public to assist and cooperate with the government and law enforcing agencies in maintaining peace and harmony in the society.
GIS maps: The Department of Land Resources released the GIS maps, the first-of-its-kind in the state, consisting of various micro-watershed map layers generated by the department for implementation of the Integrated Water Management Programme in Kohima.
According to official sources here on Saturday altogether 14 micro-watersheds were selected for the implementation of the project under Kohima project II on seven different layers of Geographic Information System (GIS)-based maps.
The Director of Land Resources Neise Mich, during the release of the maps to Rüsoma village under Kohima district, which has a treatment area of 380 hectares, termed the occasion as a landmark event in the history of the department as the maps were expected to help in implementing the project with a pre-planned target and a focus on development and uplift of the rural people.
The GIS based development project helps to select the right crop for a particular area with the exact treatment required by the particular type of land and thus generating higher yield.
Landslides:Following heavy downpour throughout Nagaland, small to medium landslides were witnessed on various parts of the state Saturday.
Talking to UNI Commandant of the Border Road Task Force (BRTF), under Border Road Organization, Col Tejpzl said due to continuous rainfall, there was landslides on NH 29, especially in the KMC dumping site, Medziphema, Pagla Pahar and Chumukedima areas.
He said the BRTF was tirelessly working to maintain the highways.
Official sources said due to incessant rain, land slide occurred at various locations along NH-29 between Dimapur to Kohima.
With the onset of monsoon, it was anticipated that bigger slides might occur along this road.
The Border Roads Organization has been working tirelessly to clear the slides as and when they occur.
NSCN(K) indictsKhehoi camp: NSCN (Khaplang) said one ‘Major Hotoi’ of Khehoi Camp, presently residing in Chekiye village, was behind the bomb blast in a retail shop on June 30 last.
A press note issued by NSCN revealed Major Hotoi had a share of business deal with Pankaj Jain, the owner of the retail shop and was to take over the business from Pankaj.
”Major Hotoi had on many occasions threatened Pankaj Jain and was contemplating on evicting Pankaj from Dimapur, claimed the press note.
It informed there was misunderstanding between Pankaj and Hotoi and latter had locked the retail outlet
Appeal to check elephant attack:Yanmhon Village Council (YVC) under the Bhandari Assembly Constituency of Wokha district appealed to the Chief Wildlife Warden of Forest Department, Dimapur to restrict the wild elephants from intruding into the village area. (UNI)
In a press note Zumomo Mozhui, Chairman of the YVC, stated around 400 acres of cultivated terrace field in Phoyo Valley became a permanent grazing ground of wild elephants that forced the villagers to stop cultivation in the valley for the past six years. It affected the economic life of those living under below poverty line.
The YVC said four people have lost their lives in last three years and many were injured, besides properties and plantation were damaged.
The village council urged the wildlife department to look into the matter and also arrange alternative measures for cultivation for economic survival of the people..
