Minister rushes to assess situation

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Takar Marde rushed to Aalo, the headquarters of West Siang district where the magistrate was manhandled by some youths recently, and took stock of the situation.

Addressing a gathering at deputy commissioner’s (DC) conference hall on Tuesday, the Minister took strong note of assault on the district magistrate during hearing of bail petition and condemned the ugly incident on behalf of the government and his cabinet colleagues, according to official sources here on Wednesday.

DC is the direct representative of the President of India and he should be given due respect and protocol, the home minister said and warned that the government will not tolerate such kind of activities to create an un-conducive society to live in.

Calling for an immediate solution through discussion and sitting across the table the minister gave a loud and clear message not to tolerate lawlessness in the society.

He disclosed that IRBN and additional forces have been reinforced in the district to tackle any kind of incident.

Urging head of the departments to deliver good services to the people, he said as agent of the government development should percolate down to the masses, sources added.

Meanwhile, insurgency-hit Tirap and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh is all set to embark on a new path of development with the Planning Commission agreeing in principal for expansion of the North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project (NERCRMP) with an initial financial outlay of Rs 100 crore.
