JOWAI: Jaintia Hills police on Thursday arrested three car lifters from Lumshnong along with two vehicles.

According to sources, police personnel during a routine checking came across a vehicle (AS04P-1091) and during verification of documents pertaining to this vehicle it was found that the number plate did not match with the number written in the registration card.

The driver, identified as Uttam Kumar (35), tried to flee to nearby jungle, but police overpowered him.

During interrogation, Kumar informed that another stolen vehicle had already crossed Lumshnong check point.

Police immediately informed the Umkiang Police who later seized the other vehicle (WB74P-2045) and arrested two persons, Dillip Singh of Malda (West Bengal) and Hera Singh of Patna (Bihar) from Umkiang.

“The arrested persons admitted that both the stolen vehicles were supposed to be handed over one Jeribam-based person who promised to pay them Rs. 25,000 as commission for each vehicle,” police said.
