Shillong: With an aim to provide necessary scientific inputs to the district administration, the North Eastern District Resources Plan-NEDRP programme was launched in the State on Tuesday.
Initiated by the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) in collaboration with North Eastern Council (NEC), the programme aims at targetting various departments for preparing their Derailed Project Report (DPR), Master Plan document, defining developmental project proposals and planning of various kinds of developmental activities in their district using space technology.
Inaugurating the NEDRP here on Tuesday, the state Chief Secretary WMS Pariat lamented lack of scientific data in preparing a report to be submitted to the state as well as the Central government.
“This has resulted in the delay in the preparation of the DPR. But I hope with the introduction of this system, the departments will get necessary help”, said Pariat while adding that concerned departments should make optimum use of the tools made available.
Presenting a detail presentation on the possibilities of NEDRP, Director of NESAC, Dr S Sudhakar highlighted on the usage of the NEDRP portal stating that it will enable a relevant, up-to-date and affordable repository of natural resources information along with necessary action plans for agriculture, horticulture, aforestation, soil and water conservation, watershed management, wastelands etc with proper linkages to other socio-economic data for specific needs of district administration and concerned line departments like Agriculture and Horticulture, Election, Forest, Industries, Planning, Public Health Engineering, Public Works, Soil Conservation, Tourism etc.
It is learnt that the preparation of the NEDRP portal has been completed for East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi districts.
