SHILLONG: The State Government has fixed the date for the municipal election in Williamnagar on August 23 and the counting has been scheduled for August 25.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Urban Affairs department Principal Secretary P Naik also informed that the date of publication of the draft electoral rolls is July 13 while the last date for filing claims and objections is July 20.

“The final publication of the draft electoral rolls is August 1,” Naik said.

He also informed that the filing of nominations will be from August 1 to 6 adding that the last date for withdrawal of candidature is August 12.

According to Naik, the last day for campaigning is up to 4 pm of August 22.

Earlier, the State Government had fixed the date of election for the civic polls in Baghmara on August 6 while the counting of the votes was scheduled for August 9.

The campaigning for the elections to all the four civic bodies will end on August 4 at 4 pm.

The court order to hold the elections before September was issued on May 30 on the basis of a petition filed by some candidates against the Government’s decision to call off the elections.

Meanwhile, the State Government is yet to fix the date for the election to the two municipal boards in Tura and Resulbelpara.
