London: French First Lady Carla Bruni has finally confirmed that she’s pregnant. But, the 43-year-old former Italian supermodel-turned- singer has denied rumours that she is expecting a boy in the autumn, insisting she does not know the sex of the child, ‘The Sun’ reported.
The singer was pictured without make-up, showing her face unusually pale and smooth and her baby bump recently while on a holiday with hubby and 56-year-old French President Nicolas Sarkozy. She said how being First Lady was easier than her former career as a model.
“It’s a lot less tiring.” In fact, reports of Bruni’s pregnancy appeared in French magazine Closer under the headline ‘Pregnant at last’ a couple of months back. The magazine had claimed that ministers have been told about the pregnancy, but were asked not to mention it because it is at such an early stage.
Subsequently, newspaper, including ‘Le Journal du Dimanche’, ‘Le Parisien’ and ‘Le Figaro’ also published the claims. (PTI)
29-yr-old becomes youngest grand-dad
London: A 29-year-old man has become the youngest grandfather in Britain after his 14-year-old daughter gave birth, a media report said.
Shem Davies – of Bridgend, Wales – was also 14 when he became a father for the first time, The Sun reported.
His schoolgirl daughter Tia now has had a girl before her 15th birthday, it said.
Davies – who split with Tia’s mother Kelly three months after she was born – said he was “absolutely delighted” at the news.
Davies was “shocked” when his daughter told him she was pregnant by her 15-year-old boyfriend.
He also has a nine-month-old son with new girlfriend Robyn Thomas.
“One minute Tia’s a baby, the next she’s pregnant. I could have yelled at her, but what’s the point? I know how hard it’s going to be for them because I was in their shoes at the same age. I didn’t handle it very well when I became a dad at 14. I wasn’t able to cope with it and I ran away,” he said.
Tia’s mother Kelly said: “My worst nightmare has always been that Tia would repeat my mistake and get pregnant young. I always lectured her about contraception.” (IANS)
Swarm of bees stings dog to death
London: A puppy, attacked by a swarms of bees from a neighbourhood hive in Britain, died after they stung her over 100 times.
Keeley Connolly’s 15-month-old German shepherd Sara was playing in the garden when she was set upon by bees from neighbour Susan Mowforth’s hive. An ex-stockbroker Connolly found the distressed animal at her door and let her into the house. Within no time, her living room was filled with bees.
She tried to drive Sara to the vet, but felt forced to stop after her car was filled with the angry swarm.
The dog was given ice blankets and kept under 24-hour care, but was put down after a plasma transfusion resulted in internal bleeding.
Connolly, who lives with husband Grant and their six-year-old daughter Sam in Andover, Hampshire, said she wanted beekeepers to be more careful about where they put their hives.
She said: “The vet said they had never seen a dog stung so many times.
“The veterinary staff were distressed because of the amount of pain Sara had been in.
“After the operation we got a phone call saying it had gone well but then she got worse again and the vet said we should put her down because they didn’t think she would pull through.”
“If it had happened an hour later, my daughter would have been at home and I hate to think what would have happened,” she added. (IANS)
