EC team to visit Manipur

IMPHAL: An Election Commission team would visit Manipur for two days from August 5 to examine the situation in the state and decide the dates of the Assembly elections due in February next year, official sources said on Tuesday.The team, which may include Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi, would meet the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and other officials during their stay here and discuss the preparations for holding the next elections.The team would also meet leaders of political parties, civil society members and cross sections of people to discuss about the convenient time for holding the elections, the sources said.
