Mizoram spent additional Rs 226.91 crore for salaries

Aizawl: Mizoram government spent additional Rs 226.91 crore for salaries and pension of government employees after implementation of enhanced pay as per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, state Finance minister H. Liansailova informed the assembly on Wednesday.

In a written reply to a question from the ruling Congress member T. T. Zothansanga, the Finance minister said that the state government incurred additional expenses to the tune of Rs 181.23 crore for the salaries of the employees and Rs 45.68 crore for payment of pension to the retired employees.

Earlier, Liansailova informed the assembly that the enhanced salary and pension had become a great burden for the state exchequer, leaving only around 60 per cent of the total budget for developmental works. (PTI)
