Shillong: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested a State Bank of India (SBI) official and a middleman for accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 here.

Acting on a tip-off, CBI sleuths arrested Pranab Lahun, Field Officer (Loans) of SBI, Main Branch, Shillong and Sarjit Singh, middleman, for demanding and accepting the bribe from a complainant for processing and sanctioning of loan to purchase a commercial vehicle, a CBI source said.

“We have trapped him after receiving a written complaint”, a CBI added.

A case had been registered under Section 120 B IPC and Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Meanwhile, the special CBI Court on Thursday remanded the duo to 14-day judicial custody. Meanwhile, when contacted, a source from the SBI Main Branch said “Lahun was seen in the office on Thursday morning and later went for his marketing duty but did not return to office”.
