Shillong: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested a State Bank of India (SBI) official and a middleman for accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 here.
Acting on a tip-off, CBI sleuths arrested Pranab Lahun, Field Officer (Loans) of SBI, Main Branch, Shillong and Sarjit Singh, middleman, for demanding and accepting the bribe from a complainant for processing and sanctioning of loan to purchase a commercial vehicle, a CBI source said.
“We have trapped him after receiving a written complaint”, a CBI added.
A case had been registered under Section 120 B IPC and Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Meanwhile, the special CBI Court on Thursday remanded the duo to 14-day judicial custody. Meanwhile, when contacted, a source from the SBI Main Branch said “Lahun was seen in the office on Thursday morning and later went for his marketing duty but did not return to office”. The source further said the matter would be taken up with the higher authorities for further actions.
