‘Tap natural resources for economic uplift’

 Shillong: Stressing on the need to focus on the economic development of rural population, the State Chief Secretary WMS Pariat said the government should focus on the ways to tap the natural resources for economic uplift of the people.

“The economic development in rural areas has come down”, Pariat said while adding that it is the job of the government to focus on the use of natural resources like bamboos as a mean of sustaining livelihood and generate additional income for the poorer section of the society.

He was speaking at the valedictory function of the 10-day workshop on “Bamboo Structures and Furniture Designing” organised by the State Forest and Environment Department at Lady Hydari Park Wildlife Interpretation Centre here on Friday.

The Chief Secretary later inaugurated the Bamboo House, a resting place at Lady Hydari Park in the presence of State Additional Chief Secretary PBO Warjri and senior officials.
