SHILLONG: The caretaker of the Water Supply Scheme in a village, Paswiless Leroi who is also the Rangbah Shnong of Warding Nongrim, Mawsynram is alleged of fraudulently withdrawing money sanctioned for various schemes by the office of the Block Development Officer (BDO) Mawsynram without their implementation

The residents of the village allege that the Rangbah Shnong managed to use Rs 10,000 for his personal benefit from the amount donated by the Hima Elaka Duwan Nongtyrnem Sirdarship to construct toilets for the unprivileged households and schools here.

According to the villagers, Leroi used up all the money meant for purchase of food grains under the Mid-Day Meal Scheme. “This man has taken and used up an amount of Rs 1 lakh which was meant for the school and till date the Rangbah Shnong has never called for a Dorbar Shnong or Executive Meeting”, the local residents mentioned in their letter to the BDO.

The villagers also threatened to lodge an FIR in the Mawsynram PS against Leroi.

The BDO Mawsynram had issued a letter to Leroi last year after receiving complaints from the local residents of Nongrim Warding about the non-implementation of e schemes meant for the construction of toilets in the village allotted by the office of the BDO. It has been found that Leroi had already withdrawn Rs 66,000 in 2008 from the money allotted for the construction of toilets in the village. The BDO then demanded the Rangbah Shnong to complete the construction by March 31, 2010 failing of which he had to return the he had withdrawn. The villagers also allege that even the BDO is also involved in this as no actions has been taken on his part against Leroi.
