Office TT tournament

 Shillong: The three-day Indian Audit and Accounts Department East Zone Table Tennis Tournament 2011-2012 organised by the Office of the Principal Accountant General (Audit), Meghalaya commenced at the U Tirot Sing Indoor Stadium here on Thursday.

The tournament was inaugurated by Principal Accountant General (Audit), Meghalaya AWK Langstieh in the presence of Accountant General (A&E)-Meghalaya, AP Chophy and Central Observer, CAG, New Delhi, BK Bakshi here on Thursday.

Officials from different states including Office of the Accountant General of the states of Orissa, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Manipur, Tripura and hosts Meghalaya participated in the tournament.

The East Zone Table Tennis Tournament which will culminate on August 6 will be followed by an inter-zonal tournament.

In the team events Quarter final among the men’s team held on Thursday, Assam beat Bihar 3-1, AG Tripura beat Jharkhand by 3-1, Meghalaya beat West Bengal (A) by 3-2 and AG Manipur beats AG West Bengal (B) by 3-2.

In the team events Semi final, Meghalaya beat Assam by 3-2.

In the individual events in the women’s single, Sayantika Kundu (West Bengal) beat G. Hek (Meghalaya).

In the men’s single (qualifying), S Chakraborty (Tripura) beat A Kaushal (Meghalaya), S Mukherjee (Jharkand) beat Beat S.S. Choudhury (Bihar), S. Gayam (Assam) beat A Chakraborty (WB ‘A’). In the veteran men single Samir Ghosh (WB ‘B’) beat SK Nag (Meghalaya).
