SHILLONG: College teachers in the State have threatened to go on the warpath if the government fails to implement revised pay for them and release arrears by August 15.
Warning of an agitation from August 16, the Meghalaya College Teachers Association (MCTA) general secretary Eureka Lyngdoh told newsmen here on Monday that it had submitted several petitions to the government on the issues concerning college teachers.
“The government failed to address the grievances despite several deadlines given to it. In the last meeting with us on June 17, the education minister sought a month’s time, but no response has come till now. The government is just buying time and sitting over the issues,” the teacher’s body general secretary said.
Lyngdoh said, “college teachers are therefore compelled to go for agitation from August 16 as the path of negotiation has not yielded any tangible result.”
“As first phase of our agitation we will cease work and wear of black badges,” Lyngdoh said.
The association is demanding implementation of revised pay scales as per the state’s fourth pay commission for the teachers in ad hoc grant-in-aid colleges and release of arrears for college teachers.
