Guwahati: Support for social activist Anna Hazare and his crusade against corruption resounded in Assam as civil society members participated in anti-corruption meetings on Tuesday.

Supporters of ‘India Against Corruption’ sat on a protest rally near Dighalipukhuri in Guwahati since morning.

People from all walks of life, including journalists, politicians and social activists, participated in the protest meet. ”We all are with Anna Hazare. Though he is arrested, we will not let the agitation against corruption die out. The anti-corruption crusade will continue,” senior journalist Maini Mahanta said. The protestors tied black cloth on their mouths, symbolising that freedom of expression was being stifled.

They also raised slogans against the union government and the arrest of Hazare and his supporters in New Delhi.

Similar protests were also held in upper Assam’s Jorhat town. Activists of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti took out a rally through the town and were joined by members of the civil society.

KMSS general secretary Akhil Gogoi is in the national capital to participate in the agitation being led by Hazare and is among the select few who have been entrusted with leading the protest following the arrest of Hazare and others. (UNI)
