Shillong: A commandant-level BSF-BGB flag meeting was held at Lyngkhat along the India-Bangladesh international border in East Khasi Hills on Saturday to deliberate on the attack on a local villager Nikesman Khongdup by Bangladeshis on Thursday.

Following the flag meeting on Saturday it was resolved that people living in the fringes of the border would be sensitized to remain calm and resist from indulging in any sort of violent action which could hamper peace and harmony between the two countries.

Deputy Inspector General of BSF, A Asthana, said the Sector Commander of BGB has assured them that they will try to prevent their people from entering into Indian Territory.

“In reference to this, we will make sure that such things do not happen in the future provided we receive the co-operation of the people and make our land border crime free,” Asthana said.

He further informed that the BSF have intensified patrolling along the border areas especially the affected area-Hat Thymmai to check infiltration of miscreants and to prevent any such incident from recurring.

Urging the people to resist from illegal trade along the border Asthana also asked them report any illegal activity in the area.

The DIG mentioned that the State Government should expedite border fencing to prevent the Bangladeshi miscreants from entering into Indian Territory.

Meanwhile, reacting to a query on the border fencing row, Rangbah Shnong of Lapalang, Oberness Marsynting said, “We would be glad if the border fencing is done along the Zero Line. If the line is drawn between me and my land then it will become hard for the villagers to accept it,” he added.
