JOWAI: Jaintia Hills NGOs including the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Khliehriat Circle, the All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organisation (AJYWO) and the Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF) have served ‘quit notice’ to all Nepalis residing in Ladrymbai Khlieh-dupon area and also to six leaders of the Mool Pravah Akhil Bharati Nepali Ekta Samaj (MPABNES) including Toplal Bhandari, Amit KC, Amar Chetri, Dr Arun Kumar Rai, Durga Datta Kandel, Rajesh Subedi, who are presently under judicial custody. The three NGOs have asked all Nepalis to evacuate the village and the district within 15 days starting from Monday.

A joint meeting of KSU, JYF and AJYWO held on Saturday had resolved to take stern action against the Nepali population residing in the village for constructing a Nepali Community Hall despite objection from the NGOs. “The permission granted by the Rangbah Shnong to the Nepali Community to construct the Community hall in the village is against the sentiment of the people and we will never accept it,” a statement issued by the NGOs stated.

It may be mentioned that the Rangbah Shnong, Marius Siangshai, had signed an agreement with the MPABNES for construction of the community hall despite objections from the organizations. The land owner had lodged a complaint against the leaders of MPABNES alleging that they had forged her signature in the lease deed under which land was sanctioned for the community hall. Following the complaint, police has arrested six of the leaders.

The organizations have also asked the administrator of the JHADC to take action against the headman for allegedly misusing his office.

Meanwhile, the AJYWO has lodged a complaint with Ladrymbai police alleging that a group of persons armed with lethal weapons had threatened the AJYWO president of Ladrymbai Unit.

Reacting to the complaint, the Dorbar Shnong clarified that the group of persons who visited the residence of the AJYWO leader Marshall Biam were infact VDP members. They went to his house to inquire into a complaint from a vehicle workshop owner who had alleged that Biam had tried to forcibly close down his workshop without any reasons.
