SHILLONG: Being in a majority in the country, the youth should take a greater role in all facets of public life, said former Home Secretary, Government of India Gopal Krishna Pillai at the fourth convocation ceremony of the Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU)held here at U Soso Tham Auditorium on Monday.
The MLCU awarded the university’s degree to 489 graduates and the honorary Doctorates to 9 eminent healers of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills at the convocation ceremony.
The 489 graduates included those from MLCU’s Shillong, Tura Nongstoin, Rymbai, Jowai and Nongtalang campuses.
Speaking at the function as the chief guest, Chief Advisor to the Government of Meghalaya DD Lapang lauded MLCU which within a short stint has been able to introduce various professional courses which are job oriented thereby giving them a place in the job markets. Lapang called upon the youth to be a leader at the same time to be humble saying, “humility is greatness; if pride goes up then success declines”.

This has cause an enormous amount of social and economic turbulence in the decades to come. “But this is inevitable at the current stage of our economic development, the important thing is that economic growth not slow down and that rapid employment opportunities for millions of young Indians arise”, said the former Union Home Secretary.
He further added that for governments at the centre, state and at the local bodies level, the challenge will be to manage this turbulence without sacrificing growth and employment.
Quoting the Ray Kurzweil, one of the foremost inventor, futurist and thinker of our time, Pillai said “Find Your Passion, learn how to add value to it and connect to a lifetime of learning”. While Elaborating the above statement, Pillai called upon the youth to find their own passion, add value to it and connect to a lifetime of learning.
