Salman fine after surgery
Mumbai: Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who underwent a surgery to treat a nerve condition that has been causing extreme pain in his cheeks and jaw, got operated and is doing fine, said a source. “Yes, the surgery took place late last night and Salman is fine now. He has just been advised complete bed rest for a few days after which he can start working,” a source close to the actor told IANS. The 45-year-old actor was suffering from a medical condition called trigeminal neuralgia and aneurysm for a long time now and when the pain became unbearable, Salman left for the US Aug 29 for treatment. Salman, whose film Bodyguard is setting cash registers ringing at the box office, will leave for London after he recuperates to start the shoot of his next venture, Ek Tha Tiger. (IANS)
HC okays abolition of Class X exams
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition challenging the decision of the Central Board of Secondary Education to abolish exams in Class X and instead use grading system for evaluation in Classes X and IX. A group of schools said in their plea that the CBSE in 2009 directed that students from senior secondary schools need not undertake the board exam for Class X, whereas those from schools up to Class X shall take up the board examinations for Class X. 8 killed as van overturns in Bengal
Burdwan: Eight people were killed when the van in which they were travelling overturned at Bhatar in West Bengal’s Burdwan district on Thursday, police said. They were going to Katwa in Burdwan district from Kolkata. Police said the Matador van was being driven at high speed. Meanwhile, a tanker loaded with nitrogen gas overturned near Wada in the district today, district police said. The incident occurred between Pali and Posheri villages due to worst condition of the roads but there were no casualties, police said. (Agencies)
