Shillong: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) on Saturday apprehended around 44 non-tribals from Iew Mawlong who were on their way to Shella to work as labourers in mines.

Among the 44 persons apprehended a majority of them were children below the age of 14. All of them hailed from Dhubri in Assam. None of these workers had any EPIC card or any other documents with them.

HANM members took all of them to the Cantonment Beat House, where they revealed that they had been asked to work at Shella by one Nehlang, a resident of Shillong and Rymbai, but could not provide any more details about their employer.

Meanwhile, HANM has questioned the credibility of the infiltration police personnel posted at Byrnihat who failed to detect such a large number of migrants entering into the State.
