Controlling indecent behaviour at public places

SHILLONG: Incidents of young couples making the ward’s Lake and Lady Hydari Park their romantic rendezvous should be dealt by the state law and order machinery, said Principal Chief Conservator of Forest VK Nautiyal.
Talking to The Shillong Times here on Tuesday, Nautiyal said the law and order machinery of the state needs to keep a check on the indecent behaviour of young couples inside the Ward’s Lake and Lady Hydari Park.
Earlier, the FKJGP had issued a deadline to young couples not to indulge in indecent behaviour at these two public places which also find mention in the tourists guide books.
It is learnt that even children and students in school uniform get involved in immoral acts in these public places which brings a shame for the people who visits the two tourist places along with their families.
Soon after the directives were issued by the FKJGP, five people were apprehended next day near Ward’s Lake when they were trying to enforce moral policing on few young couples.
Reacting to a query about the moral policing of FKJGP members, VK Nautiyal said, “Any body who has tickets can go inside and the law and order machinery of the state has to look after the matter.
According to Nautiyal, no one has raised the issue of indecent behaviour before him otherwise he would have taken some action to stop the menace in the two tourist destinations.
“If any body sees any indecent behaviour they should complain to the district administration,” Nautiyal said.
The moral policing by FKJGP, however, has been criticised by a section of people stating that “the group is going the MNS way in Maharashtra”.
The FKJGP decided to initiate moral policing against the young couples after people complained to the NGO about the activities of the couples who indulged in open display of affection.
