SHILLONG: The proposed border haat at Narayantala-Balat (Sunamganj-East Khasi Hills border) is likely to be inaugurated in October.

A senior government official on Tuesday informed that the State Government had proposed either October 13 or 15 as the date for inauguration.

“It will now depend on the Centre and Bangladesh Government whether they would agree to either of these two dates,” a senior government official said.

It may be mentioned that the Haat Management Committee of East Khasi Hills had proposed these two dates after its meeting between Union Minister of Commerce and Industries Anand Sharma.

His Bangladesh counterpart Md Faruk Khan had earlier announced that Narayantala-Balat (Sunamganj-East Khasi Hills border) would be inaugurated in October.

They had made the announcement during the inauguration of the Baliamari-Kalaichar (Kurigram-West Garo Hills border) in July last.

It may be mentioned that this is the fifth time that the date for the inauguration of the border haat at Narayantala-Balat has been fixed.

The Haat Management Committee of East Khasi Hills, meanwhile, is gearing up for the inauguration of the border haat.
