‘Snakes and ladders’ game on in JHADC

JOWAI: Two Congress MDCs, who were earlier supporting Lamdibok Sumer, have now switched alliance to the Hambertus Nongtdu camp, which now claims the support of 14 members in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).

The five-month-old political crisis in the JHADC has set the stage for a ‘Snakes and Ladders’ game between the two teams led by Hambertus Nongtdu and Lamdibok Sumer, both of whom are laying claims to the post of the Chief Executive member (CEM).

The JHADC has been under Governor’s rule since April 1.

Earlier, Hambertus Nongtdu claimed a majority support of 15 Congress MDCs, following which the Lamdibok Sumer-led EC had to step down.

Again last month, Lamdibok Sumer claimed the majority of 16 members. Four MDCs including Shangpung North MDC, KM Lyttan, Shangpung South MDC, Wanbiang Shadap, Borato MDC, Rio Sten and Ummulong MDC, Laitsing Shylla who, earlier, supported Nongtdu had switched alliance to Lamdibok camp.

On Wednesday, Nongtdu claimed that Moobakhon-Khanduli MDC Hillarius Dkhar and Shilliangmyntang MDC Brington Shylla have joined his camp. Nongtdu now claims the support of 13 Congress MDCs while Sumer claims 14 Congress MDCs are in his camp.

Meanwhile, speaking to The Shillong Times on Wednesday, Sumer informed that he had no idea about two MDCs joining Hambertus camp.
