Agartala: The Tripura Government has demanded an additional 10,000 mt rice every month following enhancement of ration cards and increase of population over the past one decade, state Food and Civil Supplies Minister Manik Dey said.

He said presently the state government has been allocating 12,595 mt rice every months for Public Distribution System (PDS), but recently it appeared as less because about 1.90 lakh new ration cards were issued with the provisional report of census.

”To manage the situation, we have reduced allocations of rice to APL, BPL and Antodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) beneficiaries under PDS,” Dey said, adding that the enlisted APL beneficiaries across the state would be getting 17 Kg of rice instead of 20 Kg rice while BPL and AAY beneficiaries would be getting 5 Kg instead of 6 Kg additional rice.

The reduced supply of rice would be made as a part of emergency arrangements to ensure regular and uniform PDS supply in the wake of shortfall of supplies, he added. (UNI)
