SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma had to step in on several occasions to rescue some of his Cabinet members during the question hour on the first day of the Autumn session on Friday.

Among those rescued by the Chief Minister included Social Welfare Minister JA Lyngdoh, Disaster and Revenue Minister Prof RC Laloo and PHE Minister Shitlang Pale, who were caught on the wrong foot, by an alert Opposition on Friday.

Lyngdoh failed to give a convincingly reply to queries raised by the Opposition regarding de-recognition of ST certificates issued by the Meghalaya in other states of the country.

Prof Laloo was also left red-faced and had no answer to Opposition Leader Conrad K Sangma’s criticism over the Government’s failure to provide relief to victims of flash floods and cyclone in Garo Hills region.

On another occasion, Dr Sangma had to respond on behalf of Pale who seemed to be in total disarray while replying to a question raised by Independent legislator Manas Chaudhuri on the need to streamline the water distribution system in Shillong.
