Khasi villagers shoot two B’deshi infiltrators

SHILLONG: Just three days after Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s visit to Bangladesh, the contentious cross-border infiltration issue flared up once again on Saturday when Khasi villagers shot two Bangladeshi infiltrators at an orchard near Borhill river near Pyrdiwah.

As per reports, the owner of the orchard, who is a resident of Mawshun near Pynursla, detected two Bangladeshis who had come to steal betel nuts.

After issuing warnings, the owner was forced to shoot at the infiltrators when they advanced towards him.

The two Bangladeshis, however, managed to flee from the scene. It could not be established whether they had died or not. The owner of the orchard has reported the matter at Pynursla police station. However, it is learnt that the BSF Commandant had also filed an FIR against the orchard owner.

A police team is expected to visit the area on Sunday to inquire into the matter.
