‘Naga Assembly the ‘poorest performer’

Kohima: Leader of Opposition Tokheho Yepthomi in the Nagaland assembly said the 11th NLA had become ‘one of the poorest performers’. In a press statement here on Sunday Tokheho said it was mandatory to have an Assembly Session once in six months time and that the fixation of date for Assembly Session was purely the prerogative of the government of the day. The duration of the assembly session rested on the government businesses. ”But apparently the government has no business as of now,” he said. Stating that discussions on starred questions in the Assembly was only for one hour in a given day, the CLP leader said when the starred and unstarred questions were raised, most of the departments did not not furnish proper and correct answers. Moreover, he said most of the ministers and parliamentary secretaries either did not not give proper answers or failed to respond. Meanwhile, making a remark on the formation of joint legislative forum (JLF), the CLP leader said for the first time in the history of 47 years of NLA, the present 11th NLA formed JLF to work out and facilitate the ongoing Naga political issue with the initiative from the Speaker of the Assembly.
