TURA: It was meant to be a celebration of triumph and good over evil as Goddess Durga slayed Mahisasur (demon) on Dashami – the last day of the Durga Puja celebrations.
Sadly, while the rest of the puja community was in all its finest revelry tragedy was unfolding in the household of a water carrier of the 121 Bn of the BSF.
The family of four — two sons and their parents — lost their youngest son of 7 years to the murderous appetite of someone within their very own community who lured the boy away only to sacrifice him in a satanic ritual to appease the gods.
Water carrier Kamal Singh of Uttrakhand is lost for words over the death of his youngest and favourite child.
The alleged attempt to cover up the crime by the BSF authorities by way of refusal to acknowledge the presence of a godman (Tanrik) inside their very own premises has only compounded the situation further.
The top officers of the 121 BSF Battalion continue to maintain that the godman (Tantrik) was refused entry inside the premises of the camp. However, police investigations reveal otherwise.
Details in possession of The Shillong Times give glaring details of the poor security apparatus of the camp and the lackadaisical attitude of the force personnel who literally turned a blind eye to the happenings.
A self-styled godman or Tantrik from Mancachar in Assam was reportedly invited into the camp by one muslim constable identified as Babu Khan.
Security has always been light when a visitor arrives courtesy a camp inmate.
Babu Khan’s wife remained barren for years after their marriage and reportedly got pregnant after a meeting with the same Tanrik. His wife is presently 6 months pregnant.
In the meantime, Havildar Chandrawan whose second daughter of marriageable age was having difficulty in getting a partner was reportedly visited by the same Tantrik inside the Campus a day before the gruesome murder courtesy Babu Khan.
The tantrik was inside the camp for two whole days, since Tuesday, but BSF authorities tried to pass it off without any claims prompting Tura police to look into the matter.
Both BSF jawans have since been taken into custody and interrogation is on to get to the root of the matter.
Tura police are hoping to crack the case within the next 24 hours.
