SHILLONG: The State Government on Monday announced that a plot of land near the premises of Ganesh Das Hospital has been identified as an alternative location for the TB Hospital (Reid Chest Hospital) located at Jhalupara area of the city.

The need for an alternative location arose after the government decided to construct the proposed Shillong Medical College at the site where the TB Hospital is situated.

Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister and In-charge Health and Family Welfare, Rowell Lyngdoh, said, “We are examining the feasibility of the land and if it is found suitable then the TB hospital would be shifter there.”

The State Government has already signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Finance Corporation last year to set up the proposed medical college on a public-private partnership mode.

Pointing out that the IFC would invite bidders to participate in the bidding process, the Minister informed that the Government and the Corporation will take a joint decision on the construction of the medical college.

“We are in the process of inviting tenders for the project,” Lyngdoh informed.

The other proposed medical college in the State would be set up at Jewilgre Aking, 18 km from Tura, on a 150-acre plot of land provided by the Chambugong clan.

“The Deputy Commissioner has been asked to examine the land at Tura and if he recommends the land then we will acquire it for the medical college at Tura,” Lyngdoh added.
