Kolkata: The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), which is awaiting the public works department’s (PWD) no-objection certificate (NOC) to host the India-England One-Day International cricket match at the Eden Gardens ground Oct 25, Wednesday dubbed the clearance procedure as “clumsy” and sought support from the state government.

“Kolkata (Eden Gardens) is slated to host several international cricket matches. We are looking for the support from the government. We are following the due procedures and visiting various offices as and when required. But we think there is no need to make the formalities so clumsy. Making them a bit simpler would be appreciated,” CAB joint secretary Biswarup Dey told mediapersons here.

A section of the media Tuesday reported that the department had denied the NOC to the CAB for the Oct 25 match.

“It has not been denied. Earlier, we got the NOC during the World Cup matches organised here. An NOC is valid for one year so where is the need for another one?” Dey asked.

PWD Minister Subrata Bakshi, when asked about the matter, told IANS: “I am not the one concerned to answer this.”

The Eden Gardens was earlier prevented from hosting a World Cup match due to non-completion of renovation work in time. (IANS)
