Provide more buses for Garo Hills

Editor,

It is frustrating that the state transport system does not serve the other districts of the Meghalaya. Ironically, the Government has introduced more buses to the already congested State capital of Shillong, whereas in the other district headquarters there is hardly one bus plying from the district to the capital. As an example, I was standing in a queue in front of the MTC counter at Williamnagar to purchase a ticket to Shillong. I was surprised to find that the ticket was over after five or six people bought theirs. There is only one night bus (in a pathetic condition) plying between Williamnagar and Shillong. Another thing that amazes me, is that even though the demand is high for more tickets, half the bus is reserved for Tura passengers. This has been going on for a long time now and I wonder why nobody has cared to address this matter. I request the authorities concerned and the Transport Minister in particular, who represents Garo Hills, to kindly solve this problem at the earliest because not everybody is fortunate enough to enjoy the luxury of travelling in private vehicles.

Yours etc.,

Bamboo barricades

 Editor,

It is observed that whenever a VVIP visits Shillong , the District Administration starts erecting bamboo barricades throughout the thoroughfares of the city resulting in wasteful expenditure amounting to lakhs of rupees every time. Why not the District Administration erect permanent G.I. pipe barricades which will be a one-time expenditure thus saving the state exchequer from needless spending? Hope the Administration takes serious note of this suggestion.

 Controversial posting

 Editor,

News about the posting and promotion of one controversial police officer T Chacko to Garo Hills (ST Sep 30, 2011) has aggrieved the people of the region. Many good officers have been sidelined and there are instances of wilful denial of important postings to officers who do not toe the line of higher-ups. Keeping Chacko in Garo Hills will cause further turmoil and inflict pain on peace loving people. His earlier misdoings in this region should be an eye opener. People of Garo Hills should arise, awake and act.

Yours etc.,
