TURA: Meghalaya police will be on “hot pursuit” of GNLA outfit founder chairman Champion R Sangma alias Pakchara as well as the Mankachar tantrik Lukman Haqib who stands prime accused in the murder of a seven-year-old child inside BSF campus in Praharinagar last week.
Meghalaya DGP N Ramachandran has categorically stated that criminals and militants alike who are living lavishly at the expense of the common man by purchasing property in posh areas of cities across the country through extortion money could soon have their land and house attached and bank assets frozen.
This would cover all militant groups of the State who may be having deals in the metros of the country. Those seeking shelter abroad will be slapped with a red corner arrest through the international police force (Interpol).
On the issue of the controversial tantrik or godman from Mankachar who went missing shortly after the death of young Krishna Singh in what investigators claim was a human sacrifice, Ramachandran has asserted that the police will not go soft on the case.
“I have spoken to my colleagues from Assam police on the need to arrest the tantrik. He is presently missing but we will attach his property as per law,” said the DGP while denying any delay on the part of the State police in getting the godman arrested when the case first surfaced.
On the possibility of the tantrik crossing over the border in neighbouring Bangladeh to escape the heat of the law enforcement agencies, Ramachandran said a red corner arrest warrant would be out through Interpol.
“One way or the other we will get him. There can be no room for criminals,” the DGP asserted.
Meanwhile, the ongoing investigation into the murder of the child in the premises of the BSF campus in Praharinagar, Tura, has led to the arrest of another BSF jawan, identified as Chandrawan, for his alleged complicity in the case.
Chandrawan was earlier detained for questioning but later released after police obtained evidence against another BSF jawan Babu Khan who is presently in police custody.
