Low intensity quake shakes Imphal
KOLKATA: A slight intensity earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale on Friday shook Manipur but there was no damage or injury, officials said.
The quake, which had its epicentre at Imphal, occurred at 8.10 pm, the India Meteorological Department said.
There were no reports of any damage or injuries. (PTI)
Defence secretary lays wreath
ITANAGAR:Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma on Friday paid homage to the martyrs of Indo-China war of 1962 by laying wreath at their memorial at Tawang bordering China.
The Defence Secretary was accompanied by Lt Gen Bikram Singh, GoC Eastern Command and General Officer Commanding Gajraj Corps and other senior officials of ministry and Indian Army, a Defence communique said here.
The War Memorial at Tawang was erected in the memory of Indian soldiers who laid their lives in defending Tawang in the Sino-Indian war of 1962.
The Defence Secretary also visited forward posts and interacted with the soldiers at number of places. (UNI)
Army operation opposed
ITANAGAR: Elected members of Tirap and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh have urged the government for stalling the reported move for Army operation in both the districts of the state.
In a signed statement the leaders, including Horticulture and Agriculture Minister Honchun Ngandam, said ” we came to know from newspapers that the Union ministry of Home Affairs was contemplating a full scale Army operation in both the districts against NSCN and other insurgency groups active in the NE region.”
” In this connection, we the elected representatives of the two districts would like to request the Chief Minister and all the cabinet ministers in the state to stall the reported move as it will bring lots of hardships to the people of these districts,” the statement said on Friday . (UNI)
