Shillong: Three days after Fr Sebastian Thongni received a life threatening message via SMS from a mobile phone (No-85751-42435), two members of the Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement (HANM), Nobosohphoh Circle, West Khasi Hills, also received a similar message from the same number, which has created suspicion and anger among the local residents.

“We have collected the address and the owner of the cell phone is from Manipur,” Dr Raja Marthandan, SP, West Khasi Hills, said.

He, however, expressed his inability to track down the owner since he or she is using a fraudulently acquired sim card.

The two HANM members, who received the life threatening message, are Felik Ïawphniaw (Assistant General Secretary), and Bistoran Ïawphniaw, who is Felik’s first cousin. Both are from Mawsaw village near Rangblang.

Stating that it might be the handy work of the son of the secretary of the Dorbar Shnong, the duo said stoic silence of the Dorbar on the issue “indicates this only”.

They filed an FIR with the Nongstoin PS after the Dorbar failed to take any action in this regard.

The SP said the secretary of the Dorbar Shnong agreed to produce his son before the police station for questioning. “At the moment we are waiting for the report,” he said.
