Kohima: The Central Institute of Horticulture, Nagaland has participated in the Global Agri Connect 2011 Conference cum Exhibition at the IARI campus, Pusa in New Delhi.
According to official sources here on Thursday the Exhibition was organised by the NSFI (National Skill foundation of India), New Delhi where CIH, Nagaland was one of the co-organisers of the event.
The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Union Minister of State, Agriculture and Food Processing Industries Harish Rawat. Sources stated that the institute exhibited the niche crops of the region like ginger, turmeric, Naga king chili, bird’s eye chili, oranges and various publications of the institute.
A host of dignitaries including DONER Minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar, Union Minister of State Agriculture and Food Processing Industries Harish Rawat, Managing Director, NHB, Bijay Kumar, Director and Head of IARI, officials of the Department of Agriculture and Co-operation and private organisers, farmers, students and buyers visited the stall.
Director of Central Institute of Horticulture Dr Akali Sema along with Senior Technical Assistant Miss K Lily Rangnamei and Field Assistant Eliyamo Humtsoe participated in the exhibition.
There was an international conference on ‘Transformational Changes in Indian Agriculture: The Next Decade’ and a special session was given to North East Region of India on the theme ‘North East: Changing Trend’, where Director of CIH Dr Akali Sema co-chaired the session along with Head of IFFCO Foundation Mr JNL Srivastava.
During the same time, the institute, as a part of its vision to promote transfer of technology for better production and productivity, organised an exposure trip of flower growers from Nagaland and Assam for 16 farmers at IARI, Pusa and HTI Haryana. (UNI)
