Swachhta Utsav observed at Rongram

 TURA: The State Water and Sanitation in collaboration with the District Water and Sanitation Mission on Monday observed the “Swachhta Utsav “or the Cleanliness Week at Rongram in which the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Sanjay Goel was the chief guest.

A painting competition with sanitation as a theme was organized followed by a rally displaying slogans on proper sanitation and personal hygiene to bring about sanitation awareness among the students of the Block.

Students from different schools under Rongram Block participated in the programme.

The rally was carried out from Rongram Secondary school to Asanangre Secondary school.

It was followed by award distribution by the Deputy Commissioner of the district.

Saljrang Sangma, Executive Engineer (PHE) cum Member Secretary, DWSM welcomed the chief guest, the students, teachers and all participants to the programme. Jenny Sangma, Rongram Block coordinator gave the introductory speech on proper sanitation and requested all the teachers to sensitize students in their school on sanitation and personal hygiene.

The Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Sanjay Goyal, IAS who is also the Chairman, DWSM spoke on sanitation as an important aspect of life whereby diseases could spread through improper sanitation.

He further continued that proper sanitation is important not only from the general point of view but it has a vital role to play in our individual and social life as well.

He urged the students and all the participants of the programme to spread the massage and create awareness of proper sanitation to their neighbors and to the society as a whole.

The chief Guest gave away the awards to the winners of the poster competition with Rangsilchi R. Marak from Little Bud Secondary School, bagging the first prize.

Lenicer Marak of Rongram Secondary School got the second prize and Amchilina Marak from ST John Secondary School the third prize.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks from Ambrose D. Sangma, Executive Engineer (PHE), North Division.
