New Delhi: With the end of over three-month economic blockade in election-bound Manipur, BJP on Wednesday announced it is sending a “goodwill team” led by senior leader Yashwant Sinha to the state to assess the ground situation there and reach out to people.
The team, comprising Sinha, BJP spokesperson and MP Prakash Javadekar and party president Nitin Gadkari’s political advisor Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, will visit parts of Manipur to meet people and learn about their hardships as well as the steps being taken by the government there.
The Supreme Court had recently observed that not much attention was being paid by the government towards the hardships faced by the north-eastern states.
In Manipur, the economic blockades on Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati (NH-39) and Imphal-Jiribam-Silchar (NH-53) were called off after 92 days when the state government assured the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) that their demands would be looked into. (PTI)
