PATNA: Union Home Secretary R K Singh on Friday reviewed the strategies of anti-Naxal operations and stressed on air surveillance against the extremists as police were sparing no pains to rescue the 15 employees of a private construction company from the clutches of the Maoist guerillas.
Mr Singh hailing from Bihar was here on his maiden visit to the state to review the strategies along with the senior authorities of the state. Focussing on air surveillance in the naxal-dominated areas, he assured of providing a special chopper laced with modern equipment and facilities to the state.
Apart from the chopper, the Centre would provide three special battalion of paramilitary forces for the combing operation, which would continue for long to flush out the extremists from the state.
If required the Centre would not hesitate in launching ”Operation Green Hunt”, the special anti-naxal operation in Bihar on the patterns of the adjoining states of Jharkhand and Orissa, he said during the high level meeting with the state Director General of Police Abhayanand, Home Secretary Amir Subhani and other senior officers of police as well as civil administration.
Apart from improving the network of roads, he said the security personnel needed to keep a close watch from the sky on the extremists specially in the difficult terrain.
Concerned over the incident of the Maoists’ taking hostage 15 employees of the Bridge Construction company, Mr Singh said safe rescue of the victims was top priority of police. He hoped for early rescue of the hostages from the clutches of the extremists.
During the meeting at the state headquarters, Mr Singh admitted that the police intelligence was weak and suggested to strengthen the intelligence system for better impact of the anti-naxal operation.
He emphasised on modernisation of police in terms of firearms and infrastructure and stressed on the need for improving communication system, including road and other things, and suggested the authorities to concentrate on border security.
He also focussed on the increasing activities of ISI and the terrorists using the state as their corridor from international border adjoining Nepal and Bangladesh. Mr Singh assured of extending financial help and other required logistic support in the anti-naxal mission in the state. Later he told newspersons that a good network of road would be helpful for the security personnel in curbing the naxal menace. (UNI)
