SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State council of CPI in its meeting held on Saturday at its office at Quinton Road noted with concern the move of the Government of India to hike price of petrol and other petroleum products. In a statement issued here, the CPI said that if the hike is not revoked, it will bring misery in the life of common man.
“It would be not out of place to mention that during the last one year the common men have been affected by the frequent hike in price of petrol and other petroleum products.
The Government which claims to be a government of the “aam admi” is totally indifferent to the problems of the poor and its policy is more in the interest of the big business houses,” said the statement.
The Meghalaya State Council of CPI feels that in order to roll back the Government Policy all common men should join their hands together and launch a common movement.
The council proposed to hold a convention on the issue along with the conference of the AITUC Meghalaya Unit on November 19 which is likely to be attended by more than one thousand delegates from all over the states and also to be addressed by the central leadership of the organization.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Meghalaya Joint Council of Trade Unions & Association held recently at Aayakar Bhawan, here expressed concern over the price rise of essential commodities and frequent price hike of petroleum product. The meeting, after having a threadbare discussion on the issue, unanimously decided to hold a massive demonstration on November 8 at 11:30am at Parking Lot, opposite CTO Building, Swami Vivekananda Road.
