Agartala: Police on Monday opened fire to disperse a crowd of students who attacked a police station, about 25 km from here.

However, no one was injured in the incident, DIG (police control) Nepal Das said.

Police resorted to baton charge and then opened two rounds in the air when a group of about 250 students attacked Radhapur police station, ransacked it and threw stones, he said.

Trouble started on Sunday when a picnic party was using mikes in high volume at Khumulwung, the headquarters of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District council (TTAADC) near the police station.

A group of students, who were staying in a nearby boarding house protested against use of mikes in high volume which turned into an altercation and then the picnic party attacked the students hostel and injured five of them.

On Monday the students attacked the police station in protest against “police inaction” on Sunday. Students and locals also blocked the road for some time. (PTI)
