SHILLONG: Concerned over the kidnapping of Block Development Officer of Dadengre Prafulla Boro allegedly by the extremist outfit of Garo Hills from his office recently, the United Democratic People’s Front (UDPF) has appealed to the GNLA to release Boro immediately on the humanitarian ground and at the same time appealed to the government of Meghalaya to ensure his speedy recovery.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, the UDPF has expressed its disappointment over the inability of the state government to do anything to recover Boro from the hideout of the extremist even after the outfit has claimed the responsibility for the incident.

“It appears that the government as well as the police administration has utterly failed to ensure safety and security to the innocent civilians in the state” UDPF vice president Bhramon Baglari said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the union has apprised the leaders of extremist outfit that the Boro People living elsewhere in the state of Meghalaya and outside the state are historically and ethnically same with the indigenous people in the Garo hills.

“The Boro people are never opposed to their aspirations either politically or economically in all fronts. We have every right to fight democratically and constitutionally, but in the name of our fight against injustice, we appeal not to harass the innocent people”, the statement stated.
