New Delhi: Work on the new Lanka-Sutnga railway line in Jaintia Hills district will start soon with survey work proposed to be completed before the onset of Monsoon, Railway Ministry sources said here on Thursday.
The Railway Ministry might also seek the involvement of the North Eastern Council for expeditious completion of the project, the sources added.
The Ministry, however, is not considering the earlier proposed Jowai-Lokro rail link since the same would pass through reserve forest areas for which necessary clearance has to be obtained from the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment.
Former Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee, had, in her rail budget speech in February, announced that there will be survey for 107 new rail connectivity in different parts of the country including the Jowai-Lokro and the Shillong-Chandranathpur links.
