Reddy’s boys hold Mohun Bagan to a goalless draw

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong FC maintained their unbeaten record at Imphal with a goalless draw against Mohun Bagan in an eighth round I-League match played at the Khuman Lampak Stadium on Friday.

Both sides had come here after being drubbed in the previous games.

While Mohun Bagan were beaten by Prayag United 2-3 at Salt Lake Stadium, Shillong Lajong FC were thumped 5-0 by Dempo SC in Goa.

Lajong played an attacking game and created more openings to put pressure on their fancied rivals from Bengal. But poor finishing and ill directed shots forced them to share a point.

“We did enough to win and it was a pleasing performance in what was our last home match in Imphal,” Lajong coach Pradyum Reddy told The Shillong Times.

Lajong’s best chance to score came in the final minutes of the match when Lalramluaha’s free kick hit the far post.

“We dominated almost throughout the match and in the second half we were all over them (Mohun Bagan). Disaapointing that Lalram’s kick hit the post,” Reddy said.

Earlier, three minutes into the second half Bagan goalkeeper Sangram Mukherjee made a good save off Lalramluaha, who created many chances for the team from Shillong.

Mohun Bagan played with 4-3-2-1 formation with Odafa Okolie in striking position and Jagtar Singh and Jose Barreto a little deep. Lajong moved to the 8th palce with 9 points after the match. The team from Shillong would take on Mumbai FC in their next match in Guwahati on December 11. (With inputs from UNI)
