Differently abled people meet
Kohima: The first ever two-day Differently Abled People Meet, organized by the Forum for Special People, Mokokchung and Care and Support Society (C&SS) of Mokokchung began in Mokokchung on the theme ‘I Know I can’.
The inaugural function saw 45 differently abled people along with 150 parents and well-wishers.
Lanu Asangma, Head Dobashi of Mokokchung, appreciated the initiative undertaken by FSP and C&SS Mokokchung for organizing the meet. He said earlier people with disabilities were either ignored or left to stay indoors throughout their life. ”But such programmes serve as a positive sign. Such platforms would go a long way in empowering them to stand out, voice out and live out their life to the fullest,” he said. (UNI)
AAPSU urges govt solve NIT problems
Itanagar: Distressed at the ‘poor’ condition of state’s lone National Institute of Technology, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union on Saturday urged the state government to solve problems of the prestigious institute.
“We appeal the state government to provide accommodation to NIT Director Prof C T Bhunia at Yupia as early as possible so that he can work closely for students’ welfare,” AAPSU president Takam Tatung said in a statement. Tatung, who led a team of AAPSU members to the NIT complex at Yupia in Papum Pare district yesterday to assess the situation, said the state government should also provide additional fund for proper functioning of the institute. Naga boy bags Global Leader Award in S’pore
Kohima: A Naga boy from Medziphema Town under Dimapur district of Nagaland, Ngulminthang (Amin) Lhanghal studying at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore bagged the Young Global Leader Award 2011.
According to sources here Amin, a second year student at Nanyang University, was earlier selected to attend the Global Changemakers first regional youth summit in Asia-India. (UNI)
Veterans enthrall crowd at Hornbill Music Festival
Kohima: Veteran singers from bureaucrats, police chief and politician belting out evergreen English and Hindi oldies that enthralled the crowd at Indira Gandhi Stadium last evening at the Hornbill Music Festival.
The evening dubbed as country, western and blues with veterans saw the show starting off with Director General of Police Band as the curtain raiser playing out some evergreen favorites.
DGP’s performance was followed Dr Nicky Kire MLA and Advisor of Music Task Force under the Nagaland Youth Resource and Sports, Nagaland Additional Chief Secretary and Agriclture Commissioner H K Khulu, bureaucrats Robert Khuvung, K T Sukhalu, Commissioner and Secretary of IT and the chief secretary’s band. This was followed by Noksang, Kasba Band, De Band Wokha, Atsole and band and finally the Cotton County band winding up the show. (UNI)
