NONGSTOIN: Time and again, it has been reported by the passengers who travel either from Shillong or Nongstoin that the service given by the maxi cab especially on Friday evenings is pathetic.

It is reported that the passenger Sumo vehicles delay up to 5.00 pm at the Shillong-Nongstoin Sumo stand, with the sole intention of earning double or extra charges from the passengers. Most of the time the Sumo drivers load extra passengers with extra charge and if the passenger does not accept the same he gets held back in Shillong for one night.

The seating capacity of Sumo is 11(eleven) in all , but late night Sumos accommodate about 14 passengers plus an extra charge of Rs. 50 to Rs. 100 per head. This practice has been going on for the past two years, especially during the winter season of the year.

Talking to this scribe a passenger condemned such illegal practice by the maxi cab association and urged upon the authority especially the transport department to look into the matter.
