Agartala: The Tripura government has decided to continue with existing detention process at elementary level, which was barred under section 16 of Right to Education (RTE), demanded a logical amendment in the provision.
Talking to mediapersons School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty said here today, several states, including Tripura, had already brought the issue to the notice of Ministry of Human Resource Development that implementation of the section would be difficult under present infrastructure.
He however, said MHRD was requested to hold a meeting of National Advisory Council (NAC) as early as possible for detailed discussion on the issue.
Presently, the classes were held about 30 hours in a week but RTE made it mandatory for holding classes at least for 45 hours in a week, which required sufficient infrastructure in the school besides, a huge number of teachers, the minister said.
”As per the existing norms of Centre two teachers are for every hundred students,” he added.
”Prepare for lessons prescribed at different levels and finally appearing in test have become a convention, but suddenly replacement of the practice by comprehensive and continuous evaluation (CCE) will might not be effective because of inadequate infrastructure in northeastern states,” Chakraborty pointed out.
